CARI CARI ANAANA

Striking Austrian duo Cari Cari release their own video for single ‘ANAANA’ which is also the soundtrack of Guinesses’ new advertising campaign ‘Liberty Fields’. It ties in with a new five minute documentary that celebrates the pioneering Japanese women's rugby team. As the duo’s female counterpart Stephanie Widmer aka Louise Yamamoto shares, “As a blackbelt-judoka and a female drummer in the male-dominated music industry I feel incredibly connected with the women in the video. No matter whether you’re a drummer, a rugby player or a firefighter. Women around the world are fighting against stereotypes and paving their own way everyday.” Once you hit play on ‘ANAANA’, you can hear why this song was selected for such a powerful message - it is immense. Taking note from their love of films, especially director Quentin Tarantino, their video for the single is a montage of sunset orange, turquoise and black. Throughout the track, Widmer’s drums and Alexander Koeck’s guitar moodily converse in relentless fury and cool indifference. The heavy rock influences bleed into contemporary songwriting, and is reminiscent of Cat Power or Wolf Alice. If you’re digging this single, then waste no time in discovering their debut album, also titled ANAANA, release back in November 2018. - Hannah Thacker
